The Flam |
Two notes played close together to create a broader sound, a flam sound. The first note, the grace note is softer, played closer to the head from a lower stick height. The second note the primary note or main note is louder, delivered from a higher stick height. The flam is named (right flam or left flam) after the primary note. Flam Tap and Inverted Flam Tap |
All of the other flam rudiments begin with either a flam tap or inverted flam tap and then add more taps, doubles or flams. |
Inverted Flam Tap: Accented flam followed by a tap played by the grace note hand of the flam. Two note grouping with a grace note for a total of 3 notes played and 3 different stick hieghts. Lowest stick is the grace note of the flam followed by a the middle stick height of the the tap, then the highest stick height of the accented primary note of the flam. The level of diffuculty is increaded by the the grace note hand going from low, middle to highest stick heighth. |

The flam tap can role pretty fast because the stick bouncing naturally can give you the 3 stick heights. |
