The Flam
Two notes played close together to create a broader sound, a flam sound.
The first note, the grace note is softer, played closer to the head from a lower
stick height. The second note the primary note or main note is louder, delivered
from a higher stick height. The flam is named
(right flam or left flam) after the
primary note.

Flam Tap and Inverted Flam Tap
All of the other flam rudiments begin with either a flam tap or inverted flam tap
and then add more taps, doubles or flams.
Inverted Flam Tap: Accented flam followed by a tap played by the grace note hand
of the flam. Two note grouping with a grace note for a total of 3 notes played and
3 different stick hieghts. Lowest stick is the grace note of the flam followed by a
the middle stick height of the the tap, then the highest stick height of the accented
primary note of the flam. The level of diffuculty is increaded by the the grace note
hand going from low, middle to highest stick heighth.
Flam Tap: Accented flam followed by a tap played by the primary note hand of the
flam. Two note grouping with a grace note for a total of 3 notes played and 3
different stick hieghts. Highest stick is the accented primary note of the flam
followed by a the middle stick height of the the tap, then the lowest stick height of
the grace note of the next flam. The flam tap can role pretty fast because the stick
bouncing naturally can give you the 3 stick heights.
